Baby It's cold outside

Sometimes, but very seldom, winter is beautiful. Today was one of those days - it wasn't too cold and there was no wind, it was really a nice day to be outside. We snuck onto the golf course. There were other dogs there but Mully for all her faults is really, really loyal, and always returns to us. It must be our sparkling personalities. Watching her run around is the best part of having a dog.

Our friend made a heart, I don't know why, it just seems to be something she does.

Her partner - I don't want to mention names because he is a really famous actor, has a cool hat. I covet that hat, but I always look dumb in hats. I'll let him keep it.
You might notice Gerry is carrying something - picking up after your dog when no is watching, is a sign of being a really nice guy. Gerry is a really nice guy.
Gerry used to be a golfer, he takes his golf course maintenance very seriously - don't step on the greens when he is around. Really - don't step on the greens, if you do, he turns red.
Mully decided to take a swim in the stream. She didn't seem to notice that it was cold. She didn't seem to notice it was winter and she really didn't notice that she didn't smell too good.
On the way home she jumped into the car and made the seat all wet before I had a chance to get in. I let her stay there because I wasn't going to sit on that wet smelly seat. I swear she is sticking out her tongue at me and laughing because I am in the back.

I may survive this winter but I doubt it.

Put down the brush and no one gets hurt

When is a painting done? For me it ends when I run out of time and I am down to the wire. Dianne who is in charge of submissions was kind enough to phone me and let me bring the forms over to her house on a Saturday night. I took a picture and I am just waiting for the email from Walmart to say that it is printed. The price is 68 cents. It should cost me more in gas to pick it up.

I am submitting two paintings to the Woman's art society of Montreal. I hate to admit how much I would like to be in this show. Okay here is the truth - I really want to be in this show. It takes place at the 9Th floor in Ogilvy's department store, in an elegant wood paneled room. I love this room. It makes you feel like you should put on long gloves and a feather hat and dress up to be invited to tea. It's that kind of room.

I have one minute to decide what to call this one and how much to price it. Okay minutes over and no decision. I have trouble making decisions. Ordering in a restaurant is not an easy thing. and lets not even discuss choosing room paint colours. This one is called "pet me". It has a name but no price. Off to Walmart I go

Sometimes it does come easy

I started working on this one last night and the time just flew by. It felt right and fun - too bad they're not all like this. It still needs work but mostly it needs a name.

Montreal - bienvenue

I just entered a painting in a group show whose theme was Montreal - our fair city. I am always impressed and awed with the imagination of people who contribute. I won't post any pictures because, well I forgot to take them and even if I had, I don't have permission. Let's just go with the permission thought and forget I left my camera at home.
Usually if you think of Montreal you think of the Olympic stadium, curved staircases, Bagels, smoked meat and cobblestoned streets in the old city. There wasn't one hockey item - that's like going to New Zealand and not having a sheep in your photographs. The subjects were of beautiful street scenes, corner depaneurs, politicians, and famous authors. One photographer displayed pictures of bicycles chained to poles in the snow, which is really appropriate because Montreal is now the city with the most bicycle paths in North America or is it just Canada, whatever. I personally hate them because we lost a lot of parking spots and those riders look so damn healthy.

My entry was a painting of a painting in the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. You see the original one here http://www.mbam.qc.ca/en/oeuvres/oeuvre_51.html. I love this painting, love the twist in her body, her beautiful face, and the way she is framed by the light and the tree trunk. There is something weird about her left hand - it looks looks like a monkey's hand - almost as if the artist forgot to finish it.
Here is Gerry admiring my version - either that or he is disgusted with the mess in studio. I love saying things like my studio - makes me feel so professional. He has messes in his office but they are clean messes - lots of paper and Post-Its. My messes tend to be big water containers, spilled paint and left over coffee mugs. It is all relative - Einstein would understand.

PS. the painting was sold.
