Pinch me

I am having an amazing fall, so good that I am pinching myself.

The  first show I participated in was called`To Mr Cohen with Love, sincerely a Friend` at Viva Vida Art Gallery.  Don't you just love the title.  Is there anyone that doesn't adore Leonard Cohen and considered him a friend, especially in Montreal.

I have mentioned before there are few artists that appeal both to the French and English.  In Montreal he is adored by everyone.  He insisted on being buried in Montreal and any tributes to him would be in Montreal. (it is coming up soon and I don't have tickets).

I submitted 3 paintings to the show and they were bought by the same person.

This picture is awful but it does show the 3 dots. Those spots of red bring joy to my heart.

Someone at the show liked Hallelujah and was sorry that it was sold (I wasn't) and commissioned a similar painting.

It was hard to make a similar painting.  Clearly my career as a forger is over.

Even for my own paintings.

Closing Time anew

I once knew an artist who painted with a 1 hair brush.  The brushes weren't available here so he had to order his sable brushes from England.  Normal people don't paint with one hair.  It wasn't as if he made small paintings he made big ones.  One stroke at a time.

I was reminded of him when I was working today.  I have been incorporating letters in my art and I painted these one stroke at a time with a small brush I had to find at the bottom of a drawer.  I can do this for 3 minutes, then my mind explodes.

Closing Time 2
Phew it took less 3 minutes - brain intact.

Closing Time

Leonard Cohen has passed away.

We were connected.  The mother in law of Gideon Zelermyer, the cantor who sang on his last album, used to live two blocks from me.  I drive through Westmount, the city where  he grew up, a lot. I went to Mcgill University and my dog swims in the river where Suzanne had a place.
Maybe not so close.
Evil teacher Suzy wanted us to do a tribute to him and played his music for the entire class.  While I enjoy his music, 3 hours can make you feel very very sad. His poetry was beautiful. So it would be natural to include words in a painting.

It is very rare that a person who is not a hockey player touches both English and French people in Montreal.  He did.

And I loved you when our love was blessed
And I love you now there's nothing left
But sorrow and a sense of overtime
And I missed you since the place got wrecked
And I just don't care what happens next
Looks like freedom but it feels like death
It's something in between, I guess
It's closing time

It's Closing Time
